Curator's Floor Talks

Curator's Floor Talks | 11:15am Each Friday in November

The David Roche Foundation is pleased to announce a new addition to our special events for Edo Style: Art of Japan.

Each Friday at 11:15am during the month of November, we will have the exhibition’s guest curator Russell Kelty (from the Art Gallery of South Australia) coming to The David Roche Foundation to do a Curator’s floor talk.

In these talks, Russell will be discussing the themes of the exhibition, the history and meaning of the various pieces on display, and the artistic and social history of the Edo period.

Hear about the lives of the samurai and the geisha, learn about the concept of the Floating Worlds, find out who Enma-O was, and what the ‘Five gateways to the world’ were, all while marvelling at the skill of Edo period artists like Hokusai and Hiroshige.

With many years of experience studying Japanese art, culture and history, including living in Japan, Russell’s talks are always enlightening and insightful, and not to be missed.
